What should my child bring to camp?
We recommend that your child come to camp with their own tennis racket, but if that is a hardship we have some extra rackets to choose from. Also, we provide extra water, but it is important that your child comes with a water bottle, especially when the weather is hot. We also suggest they apply sunscreen prior to arriving at camp.
Does my child need previous experience playing tennis/pickleball?
Mr. G's Tennis Camp is professionally structured to accommodate beginner through intermediate players and many campers come to play tennis/pickleball for the first time. This camp is well suited to lower the stress of not feeling adequate. Our independent coaches and games are designed to help all students find success. Because of our student to coach ratio, campers are placed in groups (no more than 8 players per court) according to their ability.
Do you recommend my child take more than one camp?
Many kids come to multiple camps, and because learning the skill of tennis is about repetition, students continue to improve each week they attend. If you know that your child will want to attend more than one camp, it is suggested that you sign up in advance, 1. to take advantage of the early bird specials, and 2. some camps do reach their maximum capacity weeks before camp begins.
What if we are not sure if we have the right size racket?
Bring what you have. I have seen just about every type of racket you can imagine and we can help you determine if their racket is right for them. Mr. G is happy to discuss racket size options with you and your child.
What separates your camp from other programs that are available in the community?
I have over 30 years of teaching experience, both on the court, and as a physical education teacher, but our camp has also been part of the greater Maple Valley area for over 20 years. There is no other camp designed like this one. I have taken all this experience and crafted an amazing week of tennis for your son or daughter, which includes prizes, water balloons, and games that encourage teamwork. I also interview and contract positive independent coaches who bring their own skills and drills to our camp experience.
My child is coming with friends; can they be in the same group?
Absolutely. Unless the skill level is drastically different, we can make it happen. Please note: we have had the opposite situation happen as well. If your child is coming with a sibling, for example, and you think it'd be better for them to be in different groups, simply make note of this on the registration form where you can leave additional comments.
What if it rains?
Because I am a school district employee, I will have access to classroom space to get out of the rain. On some occasions we are able to get into the Tahoma High School gym (based on availability). I will call to let you know where we will be meeting if rain is heavy. Typically, the rain can be misty and then lift as the day goes on and we are able to play outdoors. If we do meet inside, I will have coaches outside to direct you to a gym or classroom.
Do you group by age?
Yes, all groups are first created by age, and then the next criteria is skill level. On day one we will access your child's ability level and adjust accordingly.

Do you offer scholarships or financial assistance?
Yes, on a limited case by case basis. We welcome your inquiries about our partial scholarship offers by emailing us at info@mrgstenniscamp.com. Upon request, we will send out our scholarship request form and individual cases will be reviewed and determined.
What is your policy regarding photos of my child being posted online?
We want to take your privacy needs seriously, so please feel free to email us if you do not want any photos taken of your child during their week at camp. We do take a weekly full group shot of all our campers, and post that on our Facebook page. In addition, we often add various photos to our website of campers playing, and having fun. If we do not receive emailed notification, at least three days prior to your camp start date, we cannot guarantee a photo of your child will not be posted. When we do receive emailed notification from you, please specify your child's sensitivity to the subject. In other words, if they will feel uncomfortable being excluded from the group photo we can discuss how to approach that on an individual basis. Email at: info@mrgstenniscamp.com
